Bell's Story: A testimony from Jeff Parker

I arrived that morning to a homeless family, dad, mom and five kids camping in our church parking lot as if they were at a state park. Huddled together in a SUV which no doubt was as feeble as their chances of survival on the streets. In fact, I might not have noticed, had it not been for the children who poured out of the vehicle like kids at recess. Today they are housed, employed and an intricate part of an inner city church. However, that is not the story. No... Read More

CBT in India

Hello Iva,  April 5-14 was a great success!  God was so kind to give us a total of 19 ladies to teach.  We left asking that they get together once a month to review them, and to be looking for someone they could teach them to.  One of the sweet ladies, Martha, after we had taught up to the Silent Era, went to her Bible study group and taught what she had learned that day.  Then the next week she taught them the rest of them.  What a blessing it was to our hearts... Week Twenty-two Overview

Life outside of Eden is hard. Thorns in work. Brokenness in relationships. Personal dis-ease. Selfish lifestyles. Bad decisions relationally and financially. Moral, ethical, and demonic boobytraps.  Therefore, life outside of Eden requires a navigational system. God has not left us without such a mechanism. It is called wisdom. And wisdom is needed in speech, finances, relationships, charity, decision making, and in every area of life! The wisdom writer declares that wisdom is... Read More

Week Twenty-one Overview

When God calls Abraham into His story He promises to bless him and make his descendants a blessing to the nations, “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed” (Genesis 12:2-3). To whom God makes a promise He obligates His activity.  Abraham believes God and to him and his barren wife,... Read More

Week Twenty Overview

Many of the psalms lack the internal evidence required to pinpoint their historical context. Therefore, the editors of the One Year Chronological Bible lump most of these psalms together. They all, however, do share the common thread of David’s psalms, that of a Sovereign God who acts with justice and mercy.  Throughout these psalms both David and the anonymous writers identify God as the LORD. This designation reveals the God of Israel as the God of history, the God who owns... Read More

Week Nineteen Overview

A control-freak employer creates an unhealthy workplace. In the same way, negative emotions, like anger, grief, or rejection, are control-freaks who delight to take charge and boss people around. Emotions are reactionary—both good and bad. When partnered with truth, they are liberated to express joy, excitement, confidence, and peace; but, when partnered with half-truths and lies, they become incendiary—like a fire left untended or unconfined, they consume their hosts.  ... Week Eighteen Overview

David was a just man who feared the LORD. He left an indelible legacy, not only by his impressive military and political leadership, but also by his great, big heart after God: “O God, You are my God; early will I seek You; my soul thirsts for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water” (Psalm 63:1). Though David fell often and sinned grievously, God went after him, and David repented greatly. That’s what makes him a great man! The just shall live by faith. ... Read More
