Bezalel had no idea of the importance of his work. He just knew that he was gifted by God to do the task set before him.
As Bezalel labored over the ark of acacia wood, the poles, and the mercy seat, he had no idea that God's glory would reside over it and that the blood of God's Son would sprinkle its heavenly copy.
When Bezalel planed and sanded the table for the show bread and the poles that would bear it, he had no idea that it would contain the "Showbread" or the "bread of the presence" that pictured God's desire to fellowship with man. He had no idea that the Bread of heaven would be broken for his own sins.
When Bezalel hammered the the gold that formed the lampstand, "its shaft, its branches, its bowls, its ornamental knobs, and its flowers" (37:17), he had no idea that the flame that it would produce would be diminished by the Light of the World.
When Bezalel made the altar of incense and the poles that would bear it, he had no idea that the sweet incense of spices that it offered before the veil represented the intercession of God's Son for his own salvation.
When Bezalel crafted the altar of burnt offering with its four horns, its utensils, and the poles that would carry it, he had no idea that its placement by the door of the tabernacle was an earthly picture of a heavenly reality. It stood between God and man and reminded man of his sinfulness and God's acceptance of an acceptable substitute.
As Bezalel crafted and polished the laver of bronze, he saw himself and the need for his own cleansing. The laver spoke of the washing of the conscience toward God by the Living Water.
As Bezalel hung the curtains on the pillars of the outer court, he understood that Holy God was separate from unholy man. It was only through the Door that man may enter.
As Bezalel made the ephod and placed the twelve stones engraved with the names of the tribes of Israel, he knew that he would have representation in the Most Holy Place.
Israel would probably forget Bezalel's name, but his work would outlive him.
