The One Year® Chronological Bible, NKJV (Tyndale, 2013), March 26
Before his death Joshua distributes the land of Canaan among the nine and a half tribes west of the Jordan and the two and half tribes east of the Jordan. Each territory contains enemies, challenges, and benefits. No one tribe is disadvantaged by the division of land--each receives grace gifts based on the promise of God to Abraham.
Each tribe is blessed beyond measure with land freely given by God. All the people face enemies and challenges in their territories so that they will remain dependent upon God. Coveting the land given to another tribe is therefore foolish.
Everything that you have is a gift from God. Everything that another has is a gift from God. Benefits, challenges, and enemies accompany each person's gifts. Therefore, be content with what God has given you.
Question from today's reading (Joshua 12:7-14:15):
What does Caleb's response to his inheritance reveal about his character?
