When sin exposes Adam and Eve's nakedness, the LORD slays an animal and used its skin to cover the couple's nakedness. God who makes the first sacrifice and establishes the blood of animals as the medium of atonement, to cover man's sin until the way into the Holiest of All is manifest (Hebrews 9:8). It is symbolic.
"Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering" (Gen. 4:4). Abel understood that atonement was God's remedy for sin-that sin cost God the life of the innocent on behalf of sinners.
When the LORD confronts Cain for taking Abel's life, he says, "The voice of your brother's blood cries out to Me from the ground" (Genesis 4:10). Abel's life is poured out along with his blood. Abel's death prophesies of Christ's death at the hands of sinners (Luke 11:51).
After the global flood the LORD forbade Noah from eating meat that had not been drained of its blood, "But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood" (Gen. 9:4).
When the death Angel passes through Egypt, He passes the doors whose lintel and doorposts are smeared with the blood of the lamb.
Therefore, when LORD instructs Moses to inform the people to avoid eating the blood of animals, it is not a new commandment. He simply reinforces this commandment with a warning, "Whoever eats any blood, that person shall be cut off from his people" (Lev. 7:27). This commandment with a warning reminds Israel daily that they are never to lose sight of the dreadful cost of sin.
